Maya's New Friend

Maya got to see her new friend, Kaylee Marie Dick, for the first time outside of the hospital last night. She seemed to take to her fairly well. Let's just say it's good training for Maya before the new baby boy comes to live in our home. There were a couple times when Lezlie and I were holding her and Maya insisted that she be held also. But once she got to hold her herself, she thought it was the coolest thing in the world. It turns out that Kaylee is quite a bit better at the whole "waking up in the middle of the night" thing. Tommy and Julie only have to wake her up to feed. This was definitely not the case for Maya. But, at least there is hope that the next one can be better. However, this past week has been tough for Maya (and Mommy and Daddy). She is getting her 2 year molars and continues to really pull at those teeth and wake up in the middle of the night. Something tells me that God is trying to prepare us for another year of sleepless nights.

1 Pound, 2 ounces

Just wanted to update everybody after our appointment. Our big boy weighs a whole 1 lb, 2 oz. At least that is what they measured. To me, that sounds small but they said it's normal. I guess the growth rate really accelerates near the end. The heartbeat was 140 which is normal also.

While we were watching him during the ultrasound, we could see him take big gulps of the amniotic fluid. Not long after, we could see him hiccuping. Then, the nurse explained to us that the amniotic fluid is actually a mixture of the baby's own urine. I know I've been through this before but this whole birth thing still amazes me.

Forced to Grow Up

Since we are expecting a boy in October, Maya has been forced to grow up a little faster. In order to prevent the whole "that baby took my crib" syndrome, we dismantled Maya's crib and moved her to a toddler bed. We were kinda nervous about switching "cold turkey" but she has slept in a bed before and things didn't go too bad.

Overall, the transition has gone pretty well. She has gone through a fair share of falling out of the bed. But, all we've had to do is pick her up and place her back in the bed. There has been one hiccup. When she first gets placed in bed and sees Momma or Daddy leave the room, she gets the idea that she'll play for a bit. So, we often hear a few clunks and thumps but we just let her be. Most often, she ends up in her chair and rocks herself to sleep. This makes Lezlie sad but I'm sure she'll count her blessings once we have 2 to rock to sleep.Since Lezlie refuses to update the blog, I'll give a little update on her condition. She has had a few nighttime spells where the heartburn took over. But, that has only happened a couple times. The little boy is kicking but not enough that I can feel. We have another ultrasound tomorrow. The only main thing the doctor has been keeping an eye on is the placement of the placenta. She has a partial placenta previa which means the placenta is covering the cervix (for the few people in our family that aren't nurses). If the placenta hasn't moved since last checkup, they've told us that Lezlie should see a specialist. We'll keep you posted on the results.

First Cardinals Game

Maya will be 2 years old in a few months but she still continues to have very important firsts. This time it was her first Cardinals game. If you're a Cardinals fan, you should understand that this day is a defining moment in your life. I still remember my first. When I set down in my seat, some guy hit a homer off of Andy Benes. Ah, good memories...

Anyway, Tommy, Julie, Lezlie, Maya, and I hopped in the bus (our 2005 Toyota Sienna) and made our way downtown last Friday night. For some reason, I thought I had decent seats ($32 regular price) but they happened to be 10 rows from the top in VERY left field. We lasted about 2 innings before Maya decided to crap her pants. But, it ended up being a blessing. I don't think she would have lasted much longer cramped in those seats. After searching for a changing station, we happened to find a group of empty folding chairs in left field where we could sprawl out and Maya could play.

Not surprising, Maya didn't care any about the game. She was more interested in the people. But, even that got boring by the 5th inning and she needed her green goblin (that's what we call her binkie when we don't want her to know what we're talking about). It turns out we didn't last much longer. Wainwright lasted six innings only giving up 2 earned runs but the relief quickly added up the walks and runs and the Cardinals lost 11-4. Let's just hope Maya wasn't bad luck. Otherwise, we'll have to stop bringing her.
