Ms. Piggy

Busy, busy, busy. That's what we've been. I don't understand how our parents did this parenting thing. And, we only have Maya. It seems like during the week it's always go, go, go. Once we get home, by the time we eat it's already 7pm. Then, 8 o'clock rolls around and Maya's ready for her bath. Then, it's eat again and then rock to sleep. Now, I'm not complaining. It just prevents me from updating this blog. So, here's what happened the past several days...

Saturday we went home to Cole Camp. We were a little worried about the trip home because Maya had just taken an hour and a half nap. But, she slept all the way home.Upon arriving, Jason and Susan were off to birthday parties so Maya didn't get home in time to play with her cousins. But, Sunday morning they got to fool around with each other. Jocelyn and Olivia sure are proud cousins. In years to come, I'm sure Maya is going to follow them around everywhere. It seems like she watched their every move.

On Sunday afternoon, Maya got to go to her first birthday party. It was Willa's 4th. Here, Maya was her nosy self--trying to bring everything in. She got to play a little pin the tail on the donkey. And, she was passed from one person to another. She doesn't seem to mind being passed around, though. To her, it's just a change of scenery.

On Monday, we finally got Maya all to ourself. We were worried that her schedule would be messed up but nothing of the sort. She was so wound up. I asked the girls at the daycare if they fed her Mountain Dew because I swear she kicked her legs for 30 minutes. But, she wore herself out and fell asleep by 8:30 and was off to bed.

Now, you're probably wondering why the title "Ms. Piggy." Well, on Tuesday, Lezlie fed her a bottle of sweet potatoes. She was still hungry so she fed her a little cereal. Still hungry, she fed her some bananas. After this, she drank 6 more ounces of formula in the next hour and a half. So, we think that she may be starting a growth spurt.

Today, I had the privilege of taking Maya to the doctor for her 6 month shots. The boss told me it was my turn. I was dreading it because Lezlie said it was so horrible hearing her scream. Well, it wasn't that bad. She took all four of them like a real trooper and only cried for a couple of minutes. I think I've learned a little trick. Consoling her doesn't really help that much. Diversion is the trick. She finally stopped crying when I started playing with the blinds in the doctors office. But, who knows how long simple things like that will take her mind off of something else?

I love green beans!!!

I'm beginning to wonder if Maya is really my child. Why, you may ask. Well, for those of you that know me well, know that I don't put anything green in my mouth unless I have to. Maya, however, actually loves green beans. You simply can't feed them to her fast enough. She swallows and opens her mouth again and waits. Fortunately, Lezlie has reassured me by telling me that Maya looks very much like me.

Tuesday, we ran out of green beans and tried bananas. It wasn't exactly what she was expecting. She kept opening up but every time she got a bite, she kicked back and made a sour face. We'll keep trying them though.

Like Lezlie said, she stayed at home with Maya on Tuesday because she had a fever. It was definitely a good day to stay at home because boy, did it snow. The sleet started at 5am and the snow started falling at 8am and didn't stop until around 2pm. In the end, I think we had 12 inches!!! It took me 2 hours to get home. And, that's only 10 miles!! Some trucker had caught a slick spot and was stuck diagonally across 3 lanes. I hear that those of you in Cole Camp had zero. I'm starting to get sick of it. However, as you can see, Vinnie loves the snow. He helped me shovel snow on the porch and would simply stand directly under the spot where I was throwing the snow. He is such a nut.

Yesterday, Maya got to see Daddy play his first basketball game at the YMCA. I must have not had a very good game because she fell asleep before halftime. I would like to think that she was still tired from her sickness, though.

Lezlie and I will be heading home this weekend for Willa's birthday party. It seems like every other day, Lezlie and I are telling each other how much Maya is starting to be like Willa. She is beginning to be such a wiggle worm. It won't be long before she won't let anyone hold her. So, you better get your cuddles in while you can.

The Story of Maya's Life.....

As Brandon mentioned last Saturday, Maya had a pretty bad cough and we took her to the doctor. Her chest was clear and her throat looked OK so he couldn't really explain why she was having the coughing spells, other than it must be something she picked up at daycare.

He did see that she had another ear infection and was running a low fever.....which we were not expecting. But, we're glad we took her when we did so she could start an antibiotic before it got too bad. Her eyes were all clear though so that was some good news. And in the last couple of days her cough has started to get better and we saw light at the end of the tunnel. So we thought.....

She woke this morning with 102 degree temperature. I've already spoken to the nurse at her doctor's office twice this morning because it has not gone down much. It is staying near 101 - 101.4. She called in a different antibiotic for us, something a little bit stronger that will hopefully wipe out what ever kind of bug she has. Her cough isn't any worse and she doesn't have any other symptoms so I'm just keeping a close eye on her, administering Tylenol every 4 hours and lots and lots of TLC.

I love carrots!!

We have had a couple more firsts in the past week. Firstly, you can see that Maya got her first taste of real baby food--carrots. We thought she would resist the change but she kept opening up. I think she was just mesmerized by the pretty orange color. And the fact that she was able to get so messy. Lezlie tells me will started with other vegetables soon. She's the boss so I guess that's what we'll do.

Maya has also started to sit up on her own a lot better. You've gotta put pillows around her, though--in case she loses her balance. Just don't talk to her while she's sitting by herself. If you do, she's bound to laugh and fall over on her face.

Wednesday morning, one of her eyes were sealed shut again. So, we didn't quite get rid of the pink eye yet. Lezlie called in to the doctor to get more eye drops. This time, however, they gave us a cream. They told us just put the cream in the bottom of her eyelid and she will blink it in. This proves to be more difficult than what the doctors made it out to be. Basically, it takes two people--one to hold her head and the other to do the dirty work. I guess you could do it with one person if you had a vice and you clamped her head in it.

Her eyes are starting to look better but now she has a terrible cough and her voice is not her. Every time she coughs, she wimpers. It's a pretty sad sight. Luckily, Grandma H. is in town this weekend and helped out with the night shift. She does ok during the day, but after laying down for extended periods of time, she goes into coughing attacks. She slept half the night propped up with Grandma. We are heading to the doctor at 11am so I'll have more details later.
